The name may be a bit of a mouthful, but Yamaha has finally entered the factory-backed fishing rig segment with the all-new Yamaha WaveRunner Jetfish Equipped FX HO.
For years, WaveRunner fans have had to buy a Yamaha-branded jet ski and then fit it out with aftermarket accessories that made it a more fishing-friendly platform.
However, the Jetfish Equipped FX HO was introduced at the 2023 Sydney International Boat Show as a direct rival to the Sea-Doo Fish Pro, up until then the world’s only dedicated factory-backed personal watercraft-based fishing platform.

The idea is that you walk into a Yamaha WaveRunner dealership, point to the Jetfish Equipped FX HO, and then hit the water with your rods, bait, landing net and fishing knife.
We’ve seen a similar concept before, as we’ve tested the 2020 Yamaha WaveRunner FX HO FishSki, which appears to have heavily influenced the Jetfish.
The Jetfish Equipped FX HO is built on top of a standard Yamaha WaveRunner FX HO featuring a 180hp naturally aspirated 1.8-litre four-cylinder high-output engine that, once the 2024 model year jet skis start to arrive on Australian shores, will jump to a newly developed 200hp 1.9-litre version.
The Yamaha WaveRunner FX HO, which can seat up to three people, is pretty well equipped.
Standard features include Yamaha’s RiDE computer-controlled reverse drive, a 5.0-inch colour multifunction touchscreen, a Bluetooth phone connection that includes the ability to make calls, a cruise and no-wake mode, jet nozzle trim to adjust the hull’s angle relative to the water, a watertight glovebox with a 12V socket and USB outlet, 167 litres of onboard storage, and a 70-litre fuel tank.
However, the Jetfish sticker that adorns the jet ski’s hull brings a host of fishing features.

This includes an aft RecDeck that converts the stern of the jet ski into a platform, a pull-out boarding ladder, a premium fishing kit that incorporates a 45-litre Engel ice box featuring four rod holders and a Udek brag mat that you can use to measure the length of your catch, and a 6.0-inch Garmin 65CV chartplotter and fishfinder with preloaded maps, ClearVu sonar and a GT24 UHD transducer.
What are the benefits of this jet ski?
According to Yamaha, the fact it is based on the WaveRunner FX HO means you gain high-speed running out to your favourite fishing spot, easy maneuverability via the lightweight NanoXcel hull, and shallow water access.
Oh, we should also note that Yamaha also promises an exciting ride even if the fish aren’t biting.
Yamaha Australia has priced the Yamaha WaveRunner Jetfish Equipped FX HO from $27,899.
